Tender, bright, crisp wedges act as an ideal knife-and-fork Caesar salad green or, as here, crudité. A clean yet rich lemon aioli (mayonnaise laced with garlic) is the ultimate adult reinvention of bottled ranch dressing.

Tip

Create a deconstructed salad platter, inspired by the French Grand Aioli. Add a bowl of this lemon aioli to the centre of your plate and arrange a variety of small lettuces such as endive, Bibb, Little Gem, and radicchio for guests to dip into.

Radicchio Wedge Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing and Walnut Crumble

Wedge salads have come and gone, but we’re bringing them back in style, this time with a contemporary, colourful twist. Instead of cloying blue cheese dressing, a gently sweet honey mustard dressing drapes overtop boats of radicchio. A dukkah-inspired walnut crumble adds requisite crunch in lieu of croutons and bacon bits.

Not all workouts require reaching into a feedbag. In general, bike rides and other exercise outings lasting fewer than 90 minutes won’t require supplemental energy as long as pre-workout nibbles have been sufficient. Beyond the 90-minute mark, an active body can often benefit from extra calories to keep energy reserves from bottoming out. A good portion of these calories should hail from carbohydrates since these are the primary source of energy for hard-working muscles, and stores are limited. Aim to take in 30 to 90 grams of carbs for each hour of activity.
