#2013alive: Next Week, We Get Political

Did you give back to your community for week 3 of August’s 12 Months of Wellness? Next week, we put a political spin on volunteering!

For the first three weeks of August’s 12 Months of Wellness, we’ve explored our communities by sleuthing out local events, peering at our towns through the lens of a tourist, and volunteering our time. Did you find a project or worthy cause that sparked your interest?

Here at alive, we also discussed our volunteering passions. I finally found a way to fit Shakespeare into my daily life (by blogging about my experience as a Bard on the Beach helper). Editorial Intern Isabela reflected on the ungrateful bunnies that she cared for as an animal shelter volunteer, while Editor Leah donated her proofreading skills and tumbling talents to young gymnasts. Impressively, Advertising Account Manager Karla volunteered to coordinate meals for over 180 people at a summer camp for adolescent boys (phew!).

Coming up—creating positive change

Next week, we’ll put a political spin on donating our time and explore how to be activists in our communities, in order to promote positive change. Perhaps Dr. Seuss’s Lorax phrases the importance of activism the best: “unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

In the meantime, keep us updated!

Share your 12 Months of Wellness progress with us through Facebook and Twitter, and check back for our ongoing blog posts.

P.S. If you haven’t already, download our August goal sheet to continue tracking your success!
