#2013alive: Did You Freshen Up Your Resumé and Portfolio?

We’re wrapping up week 3 of September’s 12 Months of Wellness. Did you update your resumé and portfolio?

This week for our 12 Months of Wellness journey, we’ve been hard at work updating our resumés and portfolios. On Wednesday, we even shared some stories from alive staff, who told about how they stay ahead of the curve by revamping their resumés and portfolios on a regular basis.

Now, we’re looking ahead to next week, when we’ll be upgrading our skills. The world is changing at such a fast pace that often the skills we acquired during our post-secondary studies become outdated quickly. The solution? Keep growing, by learning new skills.

The end of your degree or diploma doesn’t have to mean the end of your education. Keeping on top of your industry will keep you a step ahead.

Get ready!

To prep for next week, do research by finding a course or program that’s right for you.

  • Many universities and colleges have continued education departments, which offer everything from full diploma programs on evenings and weekends, to one-day boot camps to help get your feet wet. There are also many online and distance options.
  • Are there networking events offered by professional organizations in your industry? Look for seminars, summits, and conferences where you can meet up with likeminded individuals and learn from inspirational figures.
  • Don’t rule out public lectures or dialogue series. Many are hosted at universities or public places, such as libraries.

Happy learning!
