#2013alive: Are You Freshening Up Your Resumé and Portfolio?

It’s week 3 of September’s 12 Months of Wellness journey. alive staff share how they update their resumés and portfolios.

This week for our 12 Months of Wellness journey, we’re updating our resumés and portfolios. Far from being just a task for jobseekers, revamping your resumé and portfolio is a great way to record your accomplishments and motivate you.

I mentioned that I find this especially useful at year-end review time, when we discuss with our employer what we’ve done in the past year, and what we wish to accomplish the next year. Now, other alive staff members share why it’s valuable to them.

Jennifer Procyshyn, Account Manager: I update my resumé when I’ve taken new courses or attended seminars.  I also keep current my Skills & Expertise on LinkedIn, then present and past colleges can endorse them.

Bronwyn Wilson, Marketing and Digital Communications Specialist: I keep an up-to-date resumé. I usually visit it every few months, not necessarily to update it for a new job, but to always ensure that the most recent developments in my job are reflected. I also keep a portfolio of pieces that I am especially proud of on my computer so that I can print these off to show samples of my work, or even just for a confidence booster on days that are a bit tougher. Overall, I try to use this updating time as motivation … I figure every few months I should have something new to add to the list or to upgrade if I am truly trying to excel in my position and continue to move forward in my career.
