Tired Again

When we continually have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, concentrating at work all day, and then find ourselves too tired to go out in the evening, it's generally a signal that something is wrong. Here are some homeopathic remedies to help combat occasional and chronic fatigue.

When we continually have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, concentrating at work all day, and then find ourselves too tired to go out in the evening, it's generally a signal that something is wrong. However, fatigue is a vague sign, and it's important to first rule out conditions such as a low thyroid, anemia, diabetes, or other serious illnesses.

Once you have ruled out the possibility of underlying health issues, homeopathy can help. Remedies vary depending on the individual, so choose one that suits you best, or find an experienced homeopath to help you. Chronic fatigue responds well to homeopathy, too: a 2003 study showed significant improvement in the participants after individually chosen homeopathic remedies were given by experienced practitioners.

Arnica

For physical exhaustion with muscle aching and soreness after too strenuous an activity; jet lag, feeling dazed, weary, and sore. Arnica is also the first remedy to administer after injury or surgery. Take Arnica 30c, 3 to 5 pills, 4 to 6 hours apart, for up to 3 doses per incident.

China

For exhaustion from loss of blood with anemia; individual feels edgy and nervous with the tiredness. China is also used for weakness associated with breastfeeding or from prolonged diarrhea or vomiting. Take China 6c or 9c, twice daily, for 10 to 14 days.

Cocculus

For fatigue with dizziness and faintness, feeling unwell in the stomach, but unable to sleep; fatigue and worry from jet lag, shift work, or caring for the sick. Take 3 doses of Cocculus 30c, 3 to 5 pills, 8 to 12 hours apart.

Gelsemium

For feelings of exhaustion as if coming down with the flu, along with chills, trembling, and headache in the back of the head. Or use it when recovery after the flu is slow and fatigue lingers. Gelsemium is also the main remedy for weakness from anticipation before an exam or performance, when unable to think, weak in the knees, or shaky. Take the 30c potency, 3 to 5 pills, 2 to 6 hours apart, up to 3 times.

Kalium Phosphoricum

For nervous exhaustion with insomnia; feeling jumpy, nervous, worried, and unable to cope. The person needing this mineral remedy feels better with rest, warmth, and food, but worse from any physical activity or excitement. Take Kali phos 6c or 9c, 3 to 5 pills, twice daily as needed, for 7 to 14 days.

Nux Vomica

For irritable exhaustion after working too hard for long hours with poor eating and sleeping habits; feeling stressed and tense. Excessive amounts of coffee and alcohol can also lead to this angry, impatient state. Take 3 doses of Nux vomica 30c, 3 to 5 pills, 8 to 12 hours apart.

Phosphoric Acid

For physical and emotional fatigue; feeling completely flat, apathetic, and unmotivated from grief or fluid loss after an illness. Take Phosphoric acid 6c or 9c, 3 to 5 pills, twice daily, as needed, for 10 to 14 days.

Picric Acid

For mental exhaustion and sluggishness from over-study, with trouble concentrating; lacking willpower and feeling confused when focusing the mind. Lying down and resting brings temporary relief. Take Picric acid 6c or 9c, 3 to 5 pills, twice daily, for 10 to 14 days.

In addition to using homeopathic remedies, consume a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and get enough rest so you can feel your best again.
