Health Shows

The Health Show is coming to Edmonton in September. I wouldnâ??t miss it for anything! Mixing entertainment with education is a perfect way to learn. Information seems to sink in better when itâ??s in an informal, fun environment.

From the exhibit floor to the seminar rooms, these weekend forums offer innovative ideas and inspiring programs. The exhibit floor is always filled with enough animation to keep a person busy all day.

If you are like a lot of us who shop in health food stores, we want to know who is behind the vitamin companies. Here’s our opportunity to meet the "face behind the label." Companies such as ehn inc (formerly greens+), Flora and Nu Life make an effort to meet the public and extend their information and handshake. I like that!

Do you suffer from chronic back pain? Or carpal tunnel syndrome? Don’t underestimate the bodyworking area. Some of these trained people can create miracles. This is how I finally discovered an answer to my ongoing shoulder pain. Presto–in a matter of minutes, I had relief and discovered a better option to the mild pain relievers I’d been taking.

Another favorite area is the Sampler Kitchen. Chefs cook up a storm-and it’s all done with heart and soul resulting in treats for the taste buds! Who says healthy eating can’t be delicious? The Sampler Kitchen is designed to introduce us to foods we normally wouldn’t find in the average home such as tofu, natural jams and soy drinks.

Best of all are the seminars. The key note speaker at the The Edmonton Health Show (see page 64) is Brad King. I’ve heard him speak before and he is inspiring. His topic "10 Steps to Total Body Transforming" is bound to create shifts in people’s lives. I’m after specifics--what foods give me energy, what nutrients should I be taking and can I really change my body style?

Rhody Lake, well-known activist and editor of alive Magazine and Canada’s Healthy Living Guide, leads a hot panel discussion on The Politics of Medicine and addresses the question: "What Happened to Freedom of Choice in Health Care?" If you want to make informed decisions about your medical choices, don’t miss this forum.

Other sessions include How to Slow Down the Aging Process; Natural Remedies for Arthritis; and How to Reduce Stress. The topics are always relevant, well delivered and the speakers are people in the know–who deliver in an easy to understand language. See you there!
