Sauce:
3 Tbsp (45 ml) sake
1 Tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
1 tsp (5 ml) rice vinegar
1 tsp (5 ml) cold-pressed sesame oil
Tofu:
1 16-oz (454-g) package extra-firm tofu, drained and cut into 1/2-in (1-cm) thick slices
1/4 cup (60 ml) sesame seeds
2 Tbsp (30 ml) honey
1 Tbsp (15 ml) tamari soy sauce
2 Tbsp (30 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
In small bowl, whisk together sauce ingredients until well blended. Place tofu slices in sauce and marinate 15 to 30 minutes. Drain.
Place sesame seeds in a shallow dish. In small bowl, whisk honey and soy sauce until well blended. Brush both sides of marinated tofu with this mixture and dip in sesame seeds.
In large nonstick skillet, over medium-high heat, heat olive oil and cook until tofu pieces begin to brown, about 2 minutes on each side. Arrange tofu on a plate. Serve immediately. Serves 2 to 4.
