Green Energy

In an ideal world, we would all be getting our recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables. The fact remains, most Canadians are not eating the five to ten servings a day required to ensure optimal mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

It is therefore necessary to take supplements, and many experts feel that green drinks while not a recommended substitute for proper meals are an ideal way to give our bodies some of the extra goodness they crave. Ingredients in a high-quality green drink include sea vegetables, herbal extracts, and other nutrient-rich and energizing foods not found in most diets.

During the seven years I spent developing a green food, I was looking for a wide range of colours, types of foods, water and fat-soluble antioxidants, as well as an alkaline-forming combination in order to ensure the benefits exceeded anything found in the typical diet.

Brain Food

In his book The Edge Effect (Sterling Publishing, 2004), neurophysician Dr. Eric Braverman states that a normal brain processes thoughts at a speed of 350 milliseconds, or one-third of a second. He points out that unless we take preventative measures, by the age of 34 the brain slows down to 320 milliseconds, affecting our attention span, memory, enthusiasm, and ability to think clearly. This is due to a biochemical deficiency in the brain messenger enhancer, which can be avoided or corrected by increasing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine found in high-quality green foods in the form of lecithin. The more acetylcholine in your brain, the more of an effective power zone it is.

Choline found in soy lecithin is the main building block to create acetylcholine. The National Academy of Sciences recommends a minimum of 550 mg per day of choline for men and a minimum of 425mg for women. The most abundant and easily absorbed source of choline is phosphatidyl choline. Each serving of a green drink should provide you with at least 550mg of bioavailable phosphatidyl choline pure brain power.

Vitality in a Glass

In 2004, Dr. Heather Boon from the University of Toronto released research showing that people who drank one serving of a green food supplement daily "experienced significantly greater energy levels and reported an increased sense of vitality." The Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research reported in June 2004 that people taking green drinks "noticed improvements in their mental health, along with improved overall health and well-being."

Additional soon-to-be-published research by the University of Toronto's Dr. Venket Rao conducted in test tubes and in a human clinical study found that green drinks may help reduce oxidative stress and prevent chronic diseases. Dr. Rao found that the unique lecithin from the phosphatidyl complex is a powerful bipolar molecule that attracts, binds to, and absorbs both fat and water-soluble antioxidants at "remarkably accelerated rates".

In another study presented by the University of Toronto's Dr. Leticia Rao at last year's meeting of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, green drinks were found to help promote bone formation and protect against osteoporosis.

Healthy From the Inside Out

Taking a high-quality green drink every day can boost energy levels, increase overall well-being, build strong bones, enhance memory, and strengthen the immune, circulatory, lymphatic and respiratory systems - all naturally.
