1 cup (250 ml) mixed dried fruit (chopped very fine)
3/4 cup (185 ml) ground nuts and seeds
water, fruit juice or honey
sesame seeds or dried, fine coconut
This recipe is a snap with a food processor. First chop the nuts with the cutting blade. Then chop the fruit separately. Add the nuts to the fruit and mix again adding extra liquid or sweetener if needed until the desired consistency is acquired. Once mixed, roll spoonfuls of the mixture into balls or shape into bars and dip in water or sweetener. Coat with sesame seeds or coconut.
Wrap and pack. Kept out of direct sun and they keep weeks on the trail.
Without a food processor, grind nuts 1/4 cup (60 ml) at a time in a blender or use a coffee or nut grinder. Failing such appliances, place nuts in a double plastic bag and smash with a hammer. Chop the dried fruit by hand.
