For outstanding performance in taste and nutrition the Oscar goes to–blueberries! These sweet, blue treats are rightfully occupying preferred status on the nutritional red carpet. For getting health-enhancing antioxidant protection in your bowl, you can’t do better than eating blueberries.

Researchers at Cornell University recently analyzed a wide variety of fruits for their antioxidant capability, and blueberries came out on top. In addition, scientists have found that anthocyanins, the blue-red pigments found in blueberries, improve the integrity of support structures in the veins and entire vascular system.

Pterostilbene, another phytochemical abundant in blueberries, has been shown to have both cancer-fighting and cholesterol-lowering properties.

The amazing health potential of blueberries doesn’t end there: eating a blueberry-rich diet may improve cognitive function in the elderly, and regular consumption of blueberries can help ward off diabetes by significantly lowering blood sugar levels.

It seems blueberries can even promote urinary tract health. They contain the same compounds found in cranberries that help prevent or eliminate urinary tract infections.

There are many compelling reasons to add blueberries to your diet, but my favourite is, they’re simply delicious. Try our mouth-watering recipes and see for yourself.
