Oil of oregano is distilled from the plant Origanum vulgare. This plant is known in England as "wild marjoram" and has similar names in Europe. By using the distilling method of extracting the plant, the volatile elements contained in the complex plant oils are not lost but concentrated.
Essential oil of oregano should always be used diluted and/or emulsified. To dilute, use about one tablespoon (15 millilitres) of a carrier oil such as cold-pressed olive oil to two drops of essential oil.
One of oil of oregano's powerful chemical constituents, thujone, is irritating to the skin and is also found in a number of plants that must be avoided in pregnancy, including sage and cedar, for example. It shouldn't be used during pregnancy because it could precipitate uterine contractions.
A friend who uses oil of oregano told me once that it had reportedly saved lives in Walkerton. I am not surprised. According to the published research by Dr. Paul Belaiche, oil of oregano has an 84 percent effectiveness against E. coli. Belaiche also demonstrated antifungal activity for Oreganum, which he put at the top of a list of essential oils that are effective against Candida albicans. Oil of oregano also fights pneumococcus (no resistance), Streptococcus B, hemolytic type A, Staphylococcus aureus and a whole range of other bacteria. |

| I have nothing but good things to say about oregano oil. I was diagnosed a number of years ago with rheumatoid arthritis. I was put on so many different meds that I was going to give up. Until my husband heard a talk show on the radio talking about oregano oil and its affectiveness. Oregano oil is anti everything and with nothing to lose we thought I would give it a try. Much to my suprise it has been working for over a year and a half. That is the only thing I am taking. |

| I'm not sure, but my husband and I were looking for something to treat a nasty cold, and the gal at the health food store recommended 3 drops under the tongue. Maybe it works, but after doing it once and nearly throwing up, my husband vowed never again, and I did too. I could never let that stuff past my lips again (and the suggestion of diluting it would only prolong the suffering). It was VILE! |

| I take oil of oregeno. I put three drops on a tablespoon of Udo's oil or olive oil. If you buy regular strength it is not bad but extra strength is very, very hot. You can also rub in on your feet. It doesn't burn there but I doubt it is as strong as orally taking it. I have read that applying it to the bottom of your feet at night before you go to sleep, especially if treating children. Apparently it penetrates through the skin. |

| I'm just wondering if oil of oregeno would be helpful for someone who has bronchiectasis and is prone to sinus infections as well ? Also I wonder if it would be safe to take it along with the antibiotics while fighting such an infection? |

I personally would never be without oil of oregano! It has prevented viral infections from spreading in our home. I have a problem with environmental asthma and it helps with that as well. This stuff will kill anything not wanted in our systems!
The best way I found to take it is several drops in tomato juice! I think it tastes like a liquid salad. Try it. |
