I would like to start a relatively small health food store and possibly have holistic medical practitioners as part of the business (that might be a phase II).

Can people suggest research data sources that show the growing market for holistic food products? I'm trying to make the case for this business to a doubting loan officer at the bank. There are Whole Earth Markets in the Atlanta area, but none are close to my middle to upper-middle-class suburb. Frankly, someone should have already done this, but if no one else does, I'd like to see how far I can get.

I am looking for market data, demographics of consumers of holistic foods and medical approaches. I suspect that those demographics match rather nicely with those of my suburb. I'm working on a PowerPoint that I can share with really nice people who just want to help me move on. I'd like to fast track this. My town has developers building shopping plazas with no tenants, so I think it's probably a buyer or "leasor's" market right now.

You should contact your national health food and organic associations. They will not only have tons of data about this growing consumer marketplace but may also be able to assist you with your business plan.

In Canada we have the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA). I'm sure they have a US countepart.

In the US, you should start with the Organic Trade Association. They have more suggestions for you.
