This post is for my wife.
I was told quite some time ago that antiperspirant clogs your pores and can even lead to cancer. I myself use deodorant, but my wife uses antiperspirant. Should I be worried. I know she will switch to deodorant only if I ask her to, but when her and I looked at the store every single woman's deodorant was also a antiperspirant. Can somone please tell where to find a brand name reliable deodorant for my wife. I would really appreciate it.

Hi
Both the pabas, parabans and aluminium in normal anti-perspirants can cause cancer so you're right and she should probably stop using them.
But, Natures Gate Beauty makes some great all-natural deodorants that actually work really well and they're available and most chemists or health shops. :D

PostPosted: Sun Aug 10, 2008 7:00 am    Post subject: FALSE CLAIMS Reply with quote

This 'cancer' in which is supposedly caused by antiperspirant is a FALSE claim taken over by people who do understand science. If antiperspirant causes cancer, then why haven't we all got it? We've all used antiperspirant for donkey's years, and quite frankly, common sense dictates that cancer would be caused in everyone in whom used products such as antiperspirant.

Also, here are a few other reasons in which clarify that the claims of antiperspirant causing cancer is false:

* There are plenty of other areas where you can still sweat: your scalp, your face, the front of your neck and down along the cleavage, down your back, in your groin area, and behind the knees (think about your all-over sweat "sprinkler system" during a hot flash!).
* Why would antiperspirants affect only breast cancer risk? It doesn't increase the risk of skin cancer in the armpit, even though antiperspirant concentration is highest there. If antiperspirant is absorbed through the skin and stored in the armpit lymph nodes, then why isn't there a higher rate of lymph node cancer?
* Even if the antiperspirant were concentrated in the armpit lymph nodes, the lymphatic fluid would not drain away to the breast. The direction of lymphatic fluid flow starts in the breast, and drains out through the armpit lymph nodes, toward the neck, and back into circulation. Additionally, there are one-way valves along the lymphatic drainage channels that keep the fluid moving in one direction (AWAY from the breast, not TO the breast).
* It's not true that "nearly all breast cancers" occur in the upper outer aspect of the breast, the part closest to the armpit. Rather, 40–50% of all breast cancers occur in that region, in part because more breast tissue naturally "lives" in this area, compared to the three other quadrants of the breast: upper inner, lower outer, and lower inner.

Therefore, it is obvious that these claims are a result of rumours, which presumably was emphasised by the media. As per usual.

funny stuff.
although how do we know that not all smokers have lung cancer? have they all been tested?

i stopped using antiperspirant decades ago when reports were finding that exposure to aluminum increased risk of alzheimer's, as well inhibited the functions of the glands in the armpit area. don't know if any of it is true, but it turns out deodorant (sans anti-perspirant) works just fine.

I get Tom's of Maine deodorant at Trader Joe's (or your local health food store).

Hello,
I am motivated to include my two-penny worth.
The skin is the largest organ of the body and does have major healing work to do i.e getting rid of toxins. there are many products on the market which are not anti-perspiring and are non-blocking. The simplicity of potasium alum for example is that the cellular size is larger than the skin cell and lies like talc. Once your perspiration has been absorbed it may not go back and rest on the skin and mix with our very normal skin bacteria and produce that very distinctive smell.
This issue is about consumer choice, my attitude is walk away from all the hype..................... and find simple answers.
I must declare that i am marketing alum crystals on www.pure-natural-deodorant.com Plese feel free to have a look around.
:D
