I read recently that there is a new diet fad that is working really well - it involves maple syrup mixed with water, grapefruit and something else I've forgotten! You're supposed to eat/drink only these things for a week and sweat out toxins from within the body.
Has anyone out there heard of this? Has anyone tried it? |

Hi guest, :)
Its incredible to see what gimmicks people come up with for weight loss. :) Seems like there is a new diet everyday. Unfortunately fad diets do not work. In fact, they tend to help you pack weight on in the long run and make you feel terrible in general.
As for toxin elimination, there are much safer and effective ways to do that( check alive's database and I am sure you will find an article or two on the subject). The best way to lose fat is to eat sensibly and burn off additional calories through exercise. Have a great day! ^_^

This sugary diet is nothing more than a dentists dream. Sure, you can eat anything (even ice cream and chocolate bars) and lose weight, if you limit portion size and count calories but everything also has to be balanced from the 4 food groups. This maple syrup diet is nothing more than a passing fad. It's unhealthy and sorely lacking in vitamins and nutrients.
If you must do it, be sure to brush and floss regularly and load up on a good multi-vitamin.
I personally have a sweet tooth, which I have to constantly fight. Although I'm not overweight, I still have to fight the urge to splurge on sugary foods (maple syrup and pancakes being one of my all time favourites) and this particular diet would just wet my taste buds and cause me to crave more of it, thereby defeating the purpose of helping to lose weight.
As for ridding the body of toxins, you'd do better drinking 8 glasses of water per day, engaging in vigorous aerobic activity or sweating it out in a sauna. Over loading the body with a truck load of sugar (in the form of maple syrup), is akin to ingesting poison and will exacerbate insulin levels, causing your body to store it as fat.
There is no magic cure to losing weight. Just eat a bit less and exercise a bit more. You don't have to give up your favourite foods but you do have to limit portion size. |

Hi,
I think the diet you may be thinking about is the master cleanse. It really is meant to be more of a cleanse than a diet, but you do notice significant weight loss with it. It's a 10 day cleanse, consisting of 8-12 cups of "lemonade" and however much water you would like throughout the day. The recipe is per 1cup of water, 2tblsp b grade maple syrup(it must be b grade for the mineral content find it at a local health food store, regular stuff is just sugar)2tblsp of lemon juice, and 1/8th a teaspoon of cayenne. You can build up the amount of cayenne as you get used to it.
The priciple behind the cleanse is, the lemon provides every essential vitamin, the b-grade maple syrup provides minerals and the glucose your brain needs to function. The cayenne is a thermogenic to raise your metabolism, and to help transport the vitamins and minerals around the body faster. When coming off the cleanse it's important to not just gorge yourself with food. Start off slow with some orange juice and clear broth for the first day, to get your system used to food again, and the second day start on raw fruits and veggies. I personally did this cleanse for the full 10days it suggests, and it was great, I lost 15Ibs which didnt come back after Istarted eating again. My energy levels where great. As long as keep drinking the lemonade you dont get hungry.
Hope this works for you as good as it did for me. |

| I agree. This works... Whether to lose weight, feel great or eliminate the overall toxins in your body it definitely work. Bowl movements in this cleanse are extremely visual and you can see what is coming out of your body both as a liquid and solid. |

I will be brutally honest and say I don't like such things, and further more, some of the weight loss could be muscle mass, which is not good for your Metabolism.
Ways to get similar results without fad cleanses / diets.
More Whole-grain, or other fibre.
Laxatives like Senna, or natural food laxatives like Figs and Prunes.
More water.
Less Saturate Fat.
Eating foods with anti-oxidents in them.
Not eating masses of calories, and exercising properly.
Especially that last one, it's a great way to get the Metabolism in good working order, so you don't need to use far out methods of weight loss / detoxification.
Also Lemon may contain Vit C, an essential one, but the levels of any other Vitamin content are little to none.
The fact is you will get low levels of Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Vit D and Vit K off this cleanse, which won't be good for Bone Health.
I would advise people thinking about this, to think again. Whatever bits of sludge or anything of that nature, still in the human body, will come back out if you include certain foods, and a good exercise programme.
THh Metabolism is not meant to be targeted by unusual means, as the Thyroid, Pituitary, and Parathyroid, have natural ways to control Mineral, and nutrient usage, along with control / instruction from the Hypothalamus, (an Endocrine regulating part of the Brain.)
Something like a cleanse that may work, doesn't necessarily mean it's safe, or should be done. There may be some negative effects that you night have thought could happen, but didn't, but that doesn't bely the fact, there could be several mild negatives you didn't know could happen that did, and your body doesn't need extreme, or potentially harmful nutrition plans, to help it achieve what is desired, evne for a 7-10 day period.
Barring any sort of physical problems / disease / medications, a fully working, healthy body, will respond to the right kind of Metabolic stimulation, and do what you want, even if it takes 2-3 times longer, but if you attempt to hurry it up, or force it to respond too quickly to a situation, you risk one or more negative outcomes, and quite a few of those you might not feel, see or notice, and those are the worst kind. |

| It's a scam. All diets are scams. There is only one thing that works and this is proven over and over again. Stop looking for the quick fix, it doesn't exist. Diet and exercise, that's it. Eat a diet consisting mainly of vegetables and lots of greens, fruits, legumes, some nuts and seeds (but limited because they are high in calories) and fish. Avoid anything processed or packaged, but if you must eat something in a box or bag, read the labels and make sure it contains nothing artificial and the ingredients are all natural. Start exercising, even if it is only walking. Guaranteed the weight will come off and stay off... |

I don't think the Master Cleanse is a scam but some of the commercialism is with some suppliers charging silly prices for unsugared maple syrup. Best to find out the info yourslef and go to the local grocers.
I found a free page eBook for this diet/detox at maple-syrup-diets.com which gives you a step by step guide to it for those who want to know more.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Jane
