CONNECTION BETWEEN EAR AND NOSE:
Over three weeks ago I had skull base surgery to remove a benign tumor (Fibrous Dysplasia) on the interior of my right skull. Before the surgery, I smelled a sickly blood-odor when I inhaled. Nobody else could smell it when I exhaled. After the tumor was removed, I still smelled blood. Two percent of the tumor could not be removed because of the damage it would cause to my inner ear.
My neurosurgeon couldn’t explain it and sent me to an ear specialist, who denied seeing me because he specialized in ears, not noses. I searched the internet and couldn’t find out why I smelled blood, until I found the right keywords, “connection between ear and nose.” Discovering that there is a connection between the ear and the nose may explain why I could smell the effects of the tumor and the surgery inside my skull, near my ear.
Furthermore, the blood odor is starting to minimize now. It would have been a great relief if someone would have explained this connection to me because I feared that I had an additional and unrelated problem inside my nasal system.

| I have been searching the internet for what could be causing this odor that I detect in my nose. It smells of tobacco or a room after a cigarette smoker has left. I do not smoke nor does anyone in my home. Yesterday I notived that my blood pressure was up a little and I smelled this ordor for two days. Also. for those two days I had an excrucuiating headache that was centered in my forhead but later moved to my right side of my head. I can't even imagine what to ask a doctor in order to see what could be causing this smell. I dtest the smell of cigarettes which makes this whole thing so annoying. I am a newly diagnosed diabetic. I am diet controlled and try to eat the right things. I take vitamin supplements and herbal supplements but was smelling this odor before I started taking them. I have found nothing on the internet to help me determine what I could be smelling. |

| Twice in the last 6 months I have had a bout with a sickening sweet smell suck in my nose. It also seems to coat my tongue. At first I thought I had a airconditioning problem and summoned a repair man who could find nothing wrong. It took me days to finally realize that no one else could smell it. The first bout lasted about 3 weeks. Now I'm having a second episode and it's making me sick... bad headaches, nasy taste. It's of course everywhere I go. It gets worse if air is blowing, for say from an airconditioner duct or a small fan. I would appreciate any good advice. My ears are ringing like crazy also. |
