| i do not trust any baby food company and i am not willing to try any of their so called baby food, i like to make my own, but then just out of curiosity because my mother in law insists so much on trying some, does anybody know how good or not is the organic baby food made by heinz for example? she believes it is so great and so much easier when you travel since we like to go camping, but making my own baby food never stopped me from travelling. and besides it can't be fresh if coming out of a jar right? they have to add some stuff to keep it longer on the shelf. i guess i am just trying to reassure myself. |

| Read the lables. If there are preservatives, they have to be listed. I haven't' come across any in regular or organic baby food, personally. I made some of my own, and bought the rest. Presidents Choice has a line of organic baby food that is cheaper than other brands out there. |

I wouldn't buy baby food unless I was in a despirate situation. I just don't believe it's as healthy as making your own.
Some things to think about:
1/ How do you know they actually throw away bad/moldy vegetables or fruit. You wouldn't know it if they took the time to only include you would include to yours, if it was homemade, since everything is ground up.
2/ How do you know how well veggies & fruit is cleaned?
3/ If the city/town where the baby food is processed fluoridates their water, then you are providing fluoridated food to your child. (and the American Dental Association <not the CDA> states on their website that you should not give babies fluoridated water) Not to mention that boiling fluoridated water concentrates the fluoride, resulting in your baby having a higher dose of fluoride than regular tap water.
I wouldn't let anyone try to convince me to buy my baby food out of convenience. |

| It's better to do your own baby food. so that you get no problem. If it happens that you have to buy the food, you should read the label very well before buying. |

I was curious about the Presidents Choice Organic Baby Food, so my mother in-law bought me a couple of jars to check out. I currently make my own, but was wondering more for travel purposes.
According to the FDA, nothing under 5% of the ingredients need to be listed.....this is why I was curious as to what was really in it. What I don't understand and maybe someone could shed some light on this one, why is there just over 30mg of Sodium in the Carrots (4.5 oz) when raw carrots have 2.5 mg per 3.5 oz. The only other ingredient listed is water....I doubt they are using salt water.
This would be my opinion on jarred baby food, although jars are a great way of storing.
At the same time, when I make tomato sauce in the summer, I don't need to put any preservatives in the jars for them to last 3 years. |

There is one company that I have used and I really do trust their products.
It is called Sweet Pea baby food and it is all organic and sold frozen in single serving trays at health food stores. It is really good and my son loves it.
My only problem with it is that I wish there were more varieties.
Good Luck. |
