More alive books to come.
"Fifty new books a year-that’s a tall order!" says Joseph D’Sa, alive books’ general manager. "How are you going to accomplish this?"

Sounds phenomenal, doesn’t it? But if you break the program down into smaller chunks, like four titles a month, it sounds a lot more manageable.

Sabine Bredenbrock, our book production coordinator, is excited. "This brings alive books into the league of the big publishers, an environment in which I have grown up. I just love it."

This series takes into account how much you, as a health food store customer, are concerned about nutrition and how you can improve your health. This new series of alive Natural Heath Guides is specifically designed for those who take a positive approach towards natural health and who want to avoid pharmaceuticals and processed foods.

"But isn’t that exactly what our alive books Encyclopedia of Natural Healing is supposed to do?" asks Tony Kamensek, a sales staff member.

That’s a fair question, as the concept of the alive Encyclopedia is to provide quick information so that the reader can make immediate decisions, even at times when there is no doctor or health adviser available. However, as intended, the information in a reference book is short and precise. Often readers may want to learn more about a certain condition, especially when they suffer themselves from any particular ailment like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, indigestion, nervousness or depression.

If people want to learn more than the alive books Encyclopedia covers about heart disease and its related conditions, like high blood pressure, cholesterol and arteriosclerosis, they can find more detailed information in the alive Natural Health Guides.

In 64 pages per book, with many photographs, tables and illustrations, the information is provided in practical, layman’s terms. What’s also good about the Natural Health Guides is that they provide more detailed information on nutritional supplements, daily doses and how to prepare herbal treatments. Also, diet changes and food recommendations are given with complete menus and recipes, professionally illustrated with full-color photography.

The new series of alive Natural Health Guides is categorized in four different segments. Self Help Information covers all ailments and popular health conditions. Healing Foods & Herbs presents and discusses information on newly-discovered nutraceuticals (traditional healing foods or herbs). The third category consists of Healthy Recipes for natural foods and products found in health food stores only. This is particularly helpful for those new to the whole foods menu. The books are essential guides on how to prepare delicious meals and salads using healthy, whole foods ingredients, natural flavors and the good oils from health food stores. Finally, in the category Lifestyles & Alternative Treatments, the reader is given choices of drugless healing methods proven to be effective without side effects.

Sandra Tonn, our book editor, enthusiastically comments: "I am very excited about this series because it will give the readers exactly what they want. They are frustrated with hearing conflicting information, reading through confusing books and collecting articles in order to get an understanding about a specific topic. The alive Natural Health Guides series will give them the practical, need-to-know information-and provide it in a way that is understandable. It is our responsibility and goal to give the readers the facts and do so in a way that they can take control of their health."

The lineup of authors includes the most famous names of qualified doctors, nutritionists and scientists in the field of natural healing and whole foods nutrition. It is a joy to see an entire library of natural health information developing before our eyes with many, many participants and contributors.

What I have learned personally over the years in market research, publishing magazines, listening to the feed back from readers and attending book publishing seminars in Chicago, is reflected in this enormous publishing undertaking, the likes of which has never been seen in North America.

We hired our own professional staff photographer, Edmond Fong, who is an exceptional artist in composition. He uses color, shadow and light to create astounding visuals. Pictorial perfection is achieved by our full-time, internationally-renowned chef and food stylist Fred Edrissi. Fred got so excited that he immediately authored a few recipe books himself, themes close to his healthy heart-Chef’s Healthy Pasta, Salads and Sugarfree Sweet Desserts.

"No doubt the food styling and photography in these books will have a tremendous sales impact on these books," says Alice Chan, who runs a chain of over a dozen health food stores all across Canada. "Our customers will just love them."

It’s easy to find this new series of alive Natural Health Guides-you can’t miss the colorful titles in the spinner rack!
