Despite evidence to the contrary, our society believes that vaccines prevent disease, therefore mass vaccinations are in the “public interest.” This belief system damages the search for truth in two ways:
Cover-Ups Dogma leads to bad science and bad policy. If vaccinations are “good,” then they must be defended. The issue of the costs and benefits of mass vaccination is not examined objectively. What results instead is a cover-up of unpleasant truths. The party line becomes a platitude and a threat: Vaccine X is safe and effective. There are no risks. If you don’t vaccinate your child, he or she may die. Let’s look at one meeting, the “Scientific Review of Vaccine Safety Datalink Information,” held in the United States in June 2000 and attended by 51 scientists and physicians. It was called by the CDC to deal with the mounting evidence of harm from thimerosal and other neurotoxins. Even a cursory reading of the minutes, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, reveals an inherent bias to suppress, ignore, or distort challenges to the prevailing belief or threats to undermine public confidence in mass vaccinations.
Mass Vaccinations to be Continued Despite the evidence, the following statement is characteristic of the focus of the meeting–damage control and continuation of mass vaccination despite any disquieting evidence: “My mandate as I sit here in this group is to make sure at the end of the day that 100,000,000 are immunized with DTP, Hepatitis B and if possible Hib, this year, next year and for many years to come, and that will have to be with thimerosal-containing vaccines unless a miracle occurs and an alternative is found quickly and is tried and found to be safe.” The meeting concluded that thimerosal-containing vaccines would continue to be used and vaccine manufacturer’s “urged” to find a safer substitute. One physician didn’t protest this “policy” but declared to the group that “My daughter-in-law delivered a son by c-section...and I do not want that grandson to get a thimerosal-containing vaccine until we know better what is going on.” What to do? Your children and grandchildren are not an abstraction. Do what any parent or grandparent should do: become informed, and take responsibility for your health and that of your family. There are plenty of good sources about the science behind vaccinations out there. Check some of the websites below, and remember–you are not alone. Good health comes from our actions. When we hand over the responsibility for our health to others, we lose not only the freedom of choice, but also the truth that is needed to make an informed choice. Canadian Vaccines In Canada there is still thimerosal in influenza and hepatitis B vaccines. However, in some provinces and territories, parents or guardians may have the option to ask for a thimerosal-free hepatitis B vaccine for the immunization of infants.
